Play it safe! Before you begin be sure you are properly grounded, if you don't have a grounding strap you can order one from our website for only $ 1.89 Click here to order Antistatic wristband. Viewing these instructions requires Apple Quicktime For your convenience this tutorial has both diagrams and quicktime movies of each step of your installation. Feel free to play, pause or rewind them as many time as you need to. Click on the still pictures to enlarge them for detail. Step 1. Find a soft surface to gently turn your iMac over on a soft surface so as not to scratch it. Step 2. Using a Phillips head screwdriver remove the screw under the handle in the back of your iMac. Keep all screws and parts in a safe place so you don't loose them. Step 3. Grab a hold of your iMac by the top of the carrying handle and the handle at the bottom. You will then hold still your iMac with the top handle while pulling suddenly on the bottom handle as shown in picture below. Step 4. Remove the screws outlined in the picture below. Remove screws 1 and 2 with a standard Phillips head screwdriver. Screws 3 and 4 use a standard flat head screwdriver. After removing the screws, gently pull out all of the plugs. Next holding the clear handle just below the bar code, pull out the section of the iMac. We strongly recommend you wear an anti static wrist band while handling your new and old memory. If you have one put it on at this time if not see above for ordering information. Step 5. If you are just adding more memory to your iMac remove the protective wire shield. You will then put your memory in the memory slot at a 45 degree angle as shown in the movie or picture below. With your memory in place push down on each side of the memory until you hear it snap into place and you are done. If you are upgrading the memory that comes stock in the machine please continue on otherwise you are finished with your memory install, you can skip to step number Above:Put memory in at 45 degree angle. Below: Push memory on sides until you hear it click. Step 6. The top memory slot may or may not have memory installed in it : If you already have memory installed in your top memory slot and are upgrading it then remove the memory by pinching outward the two plastic side tabs until your memory pops up, take out your memory and put it in a safe place. If you are not upgrading this memory please leave it blank or leave the memory in place. Next remove the metal band holding in the heat sink and then remove the heat sink.( That is the silver colored thing with grids on it just below the memory.) Next with an angled pair of needle nosed pliers or a bent sharp object pull on the corners as shown in the movie. Make sure you do not put to much force while pulling up, just a little at a time until the board releases its self from the two sockets underneath. Once out you will turn over the board and you will notice there is memory already in the one slot. Next you will remove your old memory as described earlier. Pulling the plastic tabs outward will cause the memory to pop out. Next you will then position your new memory in the same slot at a 45 degree angle, when in place push down on both ends of the memory until you hear it click into place. In this last step you will put back the board with the memory. Please take notice of the two plastic tabs on the board just under the heat sink, these tabs must fit into the matching holes in the metal bracket attached to the main board. See picture below. When replacing the board make sure to align the two sockets on the memory board with the main board. See pictures. Just refrence the movies or pictures for putting your iMac back together. Pat yourself on the back for a job well done! Enjoy your new speed when accessing files and running applications. © MemoryX-Created by Kelvin Penny
