SD Memory Card
Secure Digital (SD) and MultiMediaCard (MMC) are electrically the same, except Secure Digital supports "Digital Rights Management." "Digital Rights Management" is seldom used and applies to purchased music or video. Secure Digital Cards are also thicker than MMC (2.1mm vs 1.4mm). Many SD also carry a write-protect tab on the side which is used by the writing device to prevent overwrites. Speeds are measured in multiples of 150KB/sec (same as CDROMs). A 66x speed SDC card will have a transfer rate of 10BM/sec. SD card specification 1.01 has a maximum speed of 66x. SD card specification 1.1 has a maximum speed of 133x. Secure Digital High Capacity is a new format and is not compatible with older SD applications. Please refer to the SDHC section for SDHC cards. |
